New FA qualification launched – 'Leadership through Football'

A new qualification, the Level 2 Award in Leadership through Football, has been launched by the FA and 1st4sport. It will be available for delivery from September 2010 and can be delivered as a standalone qualification or as part of the Diploma in Sport and Active Leisure.

Leadership through Football has been designed to be learner-centred and engaging through its focus on football. It carries a weighting of nine credits, or 90 learning hours – a minimum of 56 of which should be delivered as guided learning hours.

It consists of four modules:

  • lead football activity sessions (three credits)
  • referee football activity sessions and small-sided games (two credits)
  • work with small-sided teams in football (two credits)
  • contribute to the organisation and delivery of a football event for young people (two credits).

The qualification has been developed with the support and technical direction of FA Learning and is awarded and administered by 1st4sport Qualifications. It is accredited by Ofqual onto the Qualifications and Curriculum Framework.
